INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE FEMICIDE - A discussion featuring authors Sharon Anne Cook & Margaret Carson “The Castleton Massacre”
Intimate partner violence /femicide is an increasingly important social issue today. Every six days a woman in Canada is murdered by her intimate partner. Seven of the 16 persons murdered in Ottawa in 2022 were women. And there is increasing evidence from the United States that intimate partner violence was the precursor to mass shootings. Canada is not immune. Evidence at the hearings into the Nova Scotia mass shooting indicated this horrific event started with intimate partner violence.
MacKay's United Church Women's unit is presenting a special event to help bring more public attention to and promote discourse about this issue.
On Wednesday, May 24, at 7.00 p.m. in MacKay's Sanctuary, authors Sharon Cook and Margaret Carson (The Castleton Massacre) will discuss femicide, using the context of their personal family tragedy, with a power point presentation and question and answer session.
All are welcome to attend this free event. Please tell your friends and neighbours. Word of mouth is the best publicity !
