Jazz and Spirituality Workshop at MacKay featuring The Tom Reynolds Trio and Peter Woods Tues, June 14 at 3 pm

Transformation is at the heart of spiritual life.  It is also central to jazz performance, where improvisation and interaction between musicians work to shape fresh creations out of familiar sounds and songs. Jazz converts conventional idioms of musical expression into new sonic possibilities, revealing creative ways of thinking differently about transformation in everyday life and religious practices.  

This workshop will explore dimensions of jazz performance to open insights into the contours of engaged living, personal and communal transformation, and spiritual vitality.  The Trio along with Peter Woods will perform and foster a discussion with workshop participants on various related themes – such as improvisation in ordinary life, trust, risk, openness, respect, dissonance, tension, mistakes and failure, listening, resilience and innovation, and kindness and compassion, among others.
